2023 FLAG FOOTBALL:

1st /2nd GRADE

Flag football is a lot fun and the perfect game type for our younger players to get comfortable with the game. We will have an 8 week, 7 game season and teams will be lead by USA Football Flag Certified coaches.

• Cost: $125 (price on the Spotlight is outdated and has been increased to account for new referee fees this season)

• Key Dates:

  • May 1st - Registration Opens

  • June 23rd - Registration closes ($25 late fee for late registrations)

  • July 23rd - Coaches meeting 6-8pm @ location TBA

  • July 25th - Parent Meeting 6-7pm @ Kiwanis Pavilion

  • August 5th - Homedays parade

  • August 7th - First Practice 6-7pm at Old Middle School Field (by water tower) and drafy

  • August 12th - Flag Camp 8-9am at IHS Stadium

  • August 23rd - First Game

  • August 25th - IYF Youth Night at Varsity Game

  • August 28th - Picture Day 5-8pm at Elmwood Rec

  • September 8th - MSPTO Youth Night and Homecoming at Varsity Game

  • September 30th - Bowl games under the lights, details to come

• Pre Season Practices: Monday 8/7, Wednesday 8/9, Wednesday, Monday 8/14 and Wednesday 8/16 6pm-7pm at Old Middle School Field (by water tower). First practice will be an evaluation day with the draft to follow. Teams will be announced on Tuesday 8/8.

• Flag Camp: Saturday August 12th 8am-9am at IHS Stadium lead by IHS Coaches

• Practices: Saturdays 8am -9am on turf at IHS Stadium starting August 19th. Our Middle School coaches will help

• Games: Wednesdays 6:00 pm and 7:00pm at Zuber Field August 23rd - September 27th. We will conclude our season Saturday night September 30th with “Bowl Games” where we will play teams from a different community that will replace our Championship/Consolation games. Details to come.

• New in 2023: We will have professional referees this year to ensure the highest quality game experience possible. Due to the referee shortage we could only get them on a week day so we chose to switch our games/practices from last years schedule. Also, we will be using higher quality athletic fit jerseys designed specifically for flag football that are harder for kids to grab accidentally. As the jerseys are more expensive IYF will keep them after the season so we can use them for years to come.

Flag Football and all of our offerings are for Independence residents only and SMS non-residents who were grandfathered into our program who participated in Fall Football in 2022.
